Thank you for visiting the official page of the Davis Social Research Journal!

What is DSRJ?

The Davis Social Research Journal (DSRJ)  is a grassroots peer-reviewed biyearly publication, offering the opportunity for undergraduate students at the University of California, Davis to think, write, and publish a chapter in the fields of Social Sciences and Humanities. This program intends to simulate the structured processes of peer-reviewed publication in the academic world and produce polished chapters which their authors can be proud of.

We expect to publish our first volume of the DSRJ in April 2025. The journal will be widely available on digital. However, as we begin to finish the compilation process, hard copies will also be printed for those who request them. The price of the hard copies will be announced then.

We are actively looking for a printing press that offers the most affordable price per copy for the best quality.

Depicted is the cover design we have settled with for the upcoming volume.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did we start the DSRJ?

Securing a publication as an undergraduate student can be a daunting process. Very few of these undergraduates seem inclined to publish because they may lack the connections to larger journals, they lack the funding to conduct often expected quantitative research, or because many publication opportunities have a very focused subject matter. We created this journal in hopes of incentivizing students to write with a guaranteed publication opportunity.

Who is the DSRJ for?

The DSRJ is targeting undergraduate students in the social sciences and humanities who wish to communicate the ideas they are passionate about to the public. We especially encourage those who are considering further education to publish.

Publishing as an Undergraduate?

Why publish as an undergraduate? Researching and writing is an excellent way to develop and organize one's ideas. Furthermore, graduate schools look at publication efforts made by an undergraduates favorably.

We have made a conscious decision not to implement the DOI system for this journal. This is because although we understand that it would make it an official journal, it also makes it subject to copyright. This would prohibit the author from using what they wrote in the DSRJ in any other journal. It goes against our ethics to restrict greater opportunities that authors may meet later in their academic careers. Therefore, this journal should be seen as a platform where one can polish their thoughts to the point that it become worthy of being published on a more prestigious platform.

Nonetheless, we fully intend to carry out this operation under the same standards as your average peer-reviewed journal. Doing this will prove to be something of great use for those who find themselves working alongside larger journals.
